I myself use HDR Efex Pro 2 from the Nik Collection though other programs work in a similar way. Here’s how HDR Efex Pro 2 works:

Select all 5 shots (or however many shots you took, that you arranged in a Stack in Lightroom), and Right-Click on them, go to Export/HDR Efex Pro 2 (or whatever HDR program you are using).

The program will open and ask you to make a choice:

Select “Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments”. The Alignment/Ghost Reduction window will open:

Choose the strength of Ghost Reduction you want (when elements move between images). If there are no moving elements, you can select no Ghost Reduction. If you select too much, parts of your image may look strange (like the sky!) Look hard, choose wisely! Click “Create HDR”.

From the next window select a Preset on the left:

If you want to make edits to the preset you chose, you can then use the panel on the right to edit the Tone Compression, Method Strength, HDR Method, Tonality, Color, or make Selective Adjustments using Control Points. Control Points are awesome, you can make targeted adjustments to parts of the image to make it look exactly how you want.

When you are happy with the result, hit Save. Note that there is a check box next to Save, “Save & Edit Later (larger files)”, which will allow you to reopen the file in HDR Efex Pro 2 again, if you want maximum latitude.
